As I sit here alone packing up my room (first picture, I pack light, no?) I’m thinking back on the past nine months. They were very stressful at times, but I found such wonderful people here that the worse of the moments here are overshadowed. I wanted to give a second to thank the people who I know read this and that I won’t be able to say goodbye to in person because my plans changed at the last minute. It’s good that I won’t say goodbye to you guys in person because I’m getting emotional now just speaking to a freakin computer.
Ellie— Monfrofro, I can’t wait to spend next year rooming with you. It’ll be Jersey fun, seriously, okay? (est. October 2011) Our similarities freak me out sometimes, like, why did we come into this year with the same hair, both names starting with E, both into guys with a name starting with D? Okay, that’s reaching. But why do we say things simultaneously and have matching marks on the bottom of the same foot? But as you said last night, it means we’re ~soulmates.
Sarah— Dick, you cray. I don’t know what I’m going to do next year being too far to hear your conversations in your room. I’m sure we’ll see you around doe, so no worries there! :)
Libbi— Libbelia, I wish we had gotten to hang out more. But Alyssa has already invited us over for pasta nights so we’ll have plenty of time next year to make up for the loss this semester.
And lastly, Alyssa— little whale! I honestly couldn’t have even dreamed of a better roommate. I don’t know how you had the patience through each of my early mornings or 316’s crisis earlier in the year. I’m glad the people in the room below us think we’re always having a party, because that’s what this year felt like for me in our tiny jailcell. I really don’t know how to put it eloquently, so I’ll just end this with saying thanks for being the Spongebob to my Squidward (or my Patrick, depending on the day :P)
I know a lot of people are lost their first year at college, but I never felt that way thanks to you guys and other people who won’t read this, but deserve the shout out anyway. Thank you for putting up with my stressed out mess and the nights that I ruined plans because I needed to work. Thank you for understanding and keeping me sane. You’re fantastic and I love you. I hope I played as significant a role in your year as you guys did for me. I’m sure I’ll see you over the summer, but if not, see you in the fall, SOPHOMORES!
I love you Emily! Thank you for putting up with me coming into the room late at night and being super clumsy when you had to wake up in four hours for class. Thank you for keeping me sane during my stressful points, I don’t know what I would have done without you. I’m so lucky to have found a friend as good as you at college :)Posted on May 19, 2012 via with 4 notes

In a simple experiment, researchers at the University of Chicago sought to find out whether a rat would release a fellow rat from an unpleasantly restrictive cage if it could. The answer was yes.
The free rat, occasionally hearing distress calls from its compatriot, learned to open the cage and did so with greater efficiency over time. It would release the other animal even if there wasn’t the payoff of a reunion with it. Astonishingly, if given access to a small hoard of chocolate chips, the free rat would usually save at least one treat for the captive — which is a lot to expect of a rat.
The researchers came to the unavoidable conclusion that what they were seeing was empathy.

this is insanely cool
OH MY GOD SO SWEET
EXAMPLES OF WHY RATS ARE BETTER THAN YOUR FAVS
It’s sad that some humans aren’t capable of this.
